2025 Retiree Healthcare Planning Guide for P&G Clients
Navigating retiree healthcare is one of the most important—and time-sensitive—decisions you'll face when stepping away from Procter & Gamble. This streamlined guide is designed to help you understand your options, meet critical deadlines, and avoid costly gaps in coverage.
What You Need to Know
P&G offers two core retiree healthcare options based on your Medicare status:
- If you are NOT eligible for Medicare: You can enroll in the P&G UnitedHealthcare® Retiree PPO Plan.
- If you ARE eligible and enrolled in Medicare Parts A & B: You can enroll in the P&G UnitedHealthcare® Group Medicare Advantage Plan.
Important: Enrollment is not automatic. You must actively enroll within specific deadlines.
Enrollment Timeline
- Enroll in retiree healthcare: Within 30 days before or after retirement
- Enroll in Medicare (if turning 65): Up to 90 days before your 65th birthday
- Submit Medicare Part A & B ID card to P&G: Before retirement or turning 65
- Receive ID cards for healthcare/prescriptions: 3–4 weeks after enrollment is processed
- First invoice for coverage: 4–6 weeks after retirement; may include two months’ premiums
Key Medicare Notes for P&G Retirees
- Medicare becomes your primary insurance on your first day as a retiree—even if your P&G active coverage continues through month-end.
- Medicare Parts A & B must begin on the 1st of the month in which you retire. Mid-month start dates are not allowed.
- You must enroll in Medicare yourself through the Social Security Administration.
To complete enrollment in the P&G Medicare Advantage Plan:
- Enroll in Medicare A & B
- Submit your Medicare ID card to P&G Benefit Services
- Call 844-786-6588 to finalize your enrollment
IRMAA and How to Appeal It
Medicare premiums may be increased based on your income from the two years prior. This surcharge is called IRMAA (Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount).
For example:
- Your 2025 IRMAA is based on your 2023 tax return.
- If your 2023 income was elevated due to severance, bonuses, or stock options, your IRMAA may be inflated.
- You can appeal IRMAA if your income has dropped due to a qualifying life event like retirement.
How to Appeal IRMAA
- Complete Form SSA-44: Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount – Life-Changing Event
- Select “Work Stoppage” as the reason for your appeal
- Estimate your 2025 income
- Include supporting documentation such as signed "intent to retire" form
- Submit the form to your local Social Security office or mail it to SSA
We can help you complete Form SSA-44 and project your post-retirement income to strengthen your appeal.
2025 Monthly Premiums
For retirees enrolled in P&G retiree plans:
- Non-Medicare Retiree: $277.00
- Medicare-Enrolled Retiree: $42.00
- Non-Medicare Spouse: $277.00
- Medicare-Enrolled Spouse: $42.00
- Dependent Child (under 26): $553.00 (non-Medicare) or $84.00 (Medicare)
- Domestic Partner (not tax-dependent): $1,106.00 (non-Medicare) or $163.00 (Medicare)
- Surviving Spouse: $1,106.00 (non-Medicare) or $163.00 (Medicare)

Retiree Dental (Cigna)
- Single: $25.00/month
- Family: $50.00/month
- Domestic Partner (not tax-dependent): +$49.01 surcharge
Coverage begins the first of the month after retirement, provided you enroll. The lifetime orthodontia maximum of $2,000 still applies.
COBRA vs. Retiree Coverage
COBRA
- Coverage lasts up to 18 months
- Same plan as active employees
- Cost includes full premium + 2% admin fee
- Best for short-term needs or coordinating with a spouse’s plan
P&G Retiree Plan
- Coverage can last a lifetime (if eligible)
- Premiums are fixed
- Offers PPO or Medicare Advantage options
- Best for long-term healthcare needs in retirement
You may elect COBRA to delay enrollment in retiree healthcare—but it’s typically more expensive.
Savvy Tips for P&G Retirees
- Start early: Begin your Medicare and retiree healthcare enrollment 90 days before your retirement date or 65th birthday.
- Avoid gaps in coverage: Medicare must begin on the first of the month in which you retire—no mid-month starts.
- Appeal IRMAA: Don't pay more than you have to—appeals are available after retirement.
- Use SSDC for support: P&G partners with SSDC to help with Medicare enrollment. Call 1-866-729-8912 (Option 5).
- Actively enroll: Healthcare and dental are not automatic. Enroll through digital.alight.com/pg or call 844-786-6588.
- Set up autopay: Avoid missed premium payments with monthly automatic withdrawals.
